With the 1.2 release, now you can install the System Log Manager desktop application and analyze logs from your own desktop instead of having to log in to the SharePoint Central Administration server.

View real time log data with the System Log Manager Web interface or cached data updated every 30 minutes with the Bamboo Log Viewer desktop application. Review server logs from your desktop client with the Bamboo Log Viewer Desktop Application. The Bamboo Log Viewer desktop application uses REST technology and local caching to access and display your log data quickly. New service settings page to configure the data retrieval interval, severities, log file cache size, access account, and servers to retrieve log data from. Now view Bamboo Logs in the System Log Manager web interface and the desktop application. Allow user with administrative rights to view logs (IIS, SharePoint Logs, SQL Server Logs, Windows Logs, Bamboo Product Logs) in a central place in Central Administration. Allow user to create Custom Views of the logs by selecting the log(s), Event Level and Time Period. View logs from multiple servers in the farm. SharePoint and SQL logs are aggregated and shown in tree view by day. IIS logs are aggregated and shown in tree view by site(s). Filter the current log by select fields such as Log Name, Source, Event Level, Task Category, user, Computer, Time Period, Event ID or ID range. Sort using the header of a column. Reorder using the header of a column. Hide or Show Preview Pane of a particular event. Additional Columns from a selected list of columns can be selected to add to the view for Windows Logs and IIS Logs.

SharePoint administrators can create custom log views, combine events from different logs, and filter out extraneous information through an intuitive tree-based user interface, and reference their custom reports to quickly isolate problems with various system components. The System Log Manager web interface (located in SharePoint Central Administration) displays real time log data. The Bamboo Log Viewer desktop application can be installed on Windows XP, Vista (32- or 64-bit), Windows 7 or Windows Server 2003 and 2008 desktops. The desktop application caches log data and is updated by default every 30 minutes. This product is a SharePoint Feature, and is installed as a solution through the SharePoint Installer. Once installed, System Log Manager is accessible from the SharePoint Central Administration Site, under the Operations >> Logging and Reporting section. System Log Manager reads log information via the Microsoft Log Parser, giving you access to system logs from a single location, without affecting the logs themselves.
