Enforce referential integrity between a single parent list and one or more child lists.

What Does it Do?

List Integrity allows you to quickly establish a relationship between SharePoint lists that exist on the same or different sites within a site collection to enforce various constraints and perform background housekeeping tasks such as when deleting an item in the parent list, all associated child list items are deleted as well - resulting in no orphaned data. You can include parent list column data in the child list forms as a reference for the user and create all associated child List or Library items directly from the parent list through the Title column context menu.

How Does It Work?

First, set up your parent and child lists. Then in each child list, create a new column with the Bamboo Link column type that comes with List Integrity and configure the parent column that links to the child column. You can also include column data from the parent list as reference information that is displayed in the new, edit and display forms of the child list. Once configured, you can create new items in each of the child lists from the drop-down menu of the parent list item. You can then set up Web Part Connections between the parent list and each of the child lists so that data is filtered in all of the child lists when you select an item in the parent list. To make setting up the Web Part Connection faster, List Integrity allows you to automatically create a new column in the child list that links to the column you selected from the parent list while configuring the Bamboo Link column.

Why Did We Build It?

SharePoint allows users to link two lists by using "look up" fields, where one list can refer to data stored in another list. This capability supports what we call 1:N (or one-to-many) relationship and allows developers to architect information using the familiar relational approach. A common problem is that in order to do this the end user is responsible for typing in or selecting the ID and ID value, which they are unaware of, but even this capability is fairly limited for it to be truly useful. List Integrity allows you to easily set up links between a parent list and multiple child lists while also enforcing referential integrity between the lists to ensure that your information is complete.
