Create powerful geographical maps to display demographic data stored in a SharePoint list or SQL database in just minutes.
What Does It Do?
The Virtual Map View product allows users to display data points as markers in a Google or Virtual Earth map using a SharePoint List or SQL table or view as the data source. Note: This Web Part
requires a separate purchase of Google Map Web Services.
Using Google Map and Virtual Earth technology, the Virtual Map View Web Part allows you to geographically display SharePoint List or SQL table or view information across a world map view. Graphically display data in a city, country, continent or region to show demographic data such as sales, distribution, customers or other statistical data. Zoom in/out and pan to view markers and select a marker to display more related information. Alternatively, you can display data by selecting specific data points from a selected SharePoint list view from the Virtual Map View Web Part user interface.

How Does It Work?
The Virtual Map View Web Part reads the geographic data from your SharePoint list
or backend SQL database and displays information using the standard Map web services
such as Google Map or Virtual Earth. You can configure the data source to be a SharePoint List or a SQL table or view. Then configure the geocoding for the Web Part to use columns from the data source for displaying address, city, state and country information. You can also configure the latitude, longitude and altitude if you have this data in your data source, otherwise the Web Part configures this for you based on your geocoding columns. Then configure the display options for the markers on the map by defining the name of each of the three tabs, selecting the columns you want displayed on each tab and selecting whether list views are available for filtering the data in the map view. You can also use custom marker images along with displaying multiple markers for different types of data in the map view. The Virtual Map View Web Part uses Google or Virtual Earth as the map services provider. Licenses for the Google Map technology must be purchased separately and license keys entered into the tool pane of this Web Part in order to use the Virtual Map View product.
Why Did We Build It?
An ever increasing number of companies are choosing SharePoint as a collaboration system. One of the main attractions with SharePoint is the ability to quickly build a shared information database through the use of Lists. SharePoint Lists can render data in multiple views to present the information in various formats tailored for use by different sets of users. These views can be a list, calendar or other custom views such as our Gantt chart view. One of the views that out-of-the-box SharePoint is missing is the Map View for SharePoint Lists that may contain geographic data. For example, address fields in a contact list or a customer list that is being used to manage sales and marketing information.

Recent Virtual Map View Web Part - Release 1.6 Forum Posts
Request parameters (0 replies) - Can the Map View accept incoming parameters?
This would be useful if, for example, we have a web part on a front page where we can select a location and then pass it in the request URL to the Map view.
Integration with Cross List Web Part (2 replies) - Can the Map View draw it's data from a Cross List Web Part?
This would be useful since we could join a list to geographic locators in another list via lookups and reduce data duplication.
Release 1.5 (Beta) Retraction issue (1 replies) - When retracting the Virtual Map View Web Part R1.5 (Beta found in Labs), when you retract the solution, the DWP in the site collections still exists and is not removed.
