What Does It Do?
The List Rollup Web Part consolidates various SharePoint list items from multiple sites and areas into a single real-time data view with the ability to filter and sort information as needed. You can define which lists and views are included as well as apply CAML filtering as needed. You can also select a master list for all selected lists to conform to for content and formatting. Save templates for re-use or modification in creating other rolled up views based on the same list data.

How Does It Work?
The List Rollup Web Part rolls up selected lists into a single DataView Web Part. To create this DataView Web Part, select a site or area, and then a list and a view, add CAML filtering (optional), and then add the list or view to the Included Lists box. Repeat these steps until all lists have been selected. Then select one of the included lists to be the Master List to determine formatting and the columns to be included in the DataView, type a name for the DataView, and click Create. The rolled up DataView Web Part is created in the Web Part Page Gallery for that page. You can navigate to the Web Part Page Gallery and drag and drop the DataView on this page to view the results. Once you have the DataView the way you want it and you are ready to share it with your users, you can Export it and save it to your desktop or any network location of your choosing. When you want to add the DataView Web Part to a page, just import the Web Part through Modify Shared Page > Add Web Parts > Import.
Why Did We Build It?
One of the major attractions of implementing SharePoint is the flexibility to create multiple sites and areas. This gives the IT department the ability to centrally control the server, databases and security, and at the same time allows each department or group the ability to manage their own sub-sites. As the usage of SharePoint increases, there is a proliferation of SharePoint sites to manage. This makes it harder for users to keep track of which tasks and documents are located in which sites because in SharePoint today, there is no easy way to see a unified view of such information.
