Using the Bamboo Microsoft Project Add-in for Microsoft Project 2010, you can export tasks from your PM Central for SharePoint 2010 Tasks list, which establishes a connection between the Tasks list and Microsoft Project. Once this connection is established, you can synchronize task updates from Microsoft Project 2010 to the PM Central Tasks list.
Note: Task synchronization is only available with PM Central for SharePoint 2010 using the Bamboo Microsoft Project Add-in for Microsoft Project 2010.
About This Article
This article provides instructions to establish a connection between SharePoint 2010 and Microsoft Project 2010 so you can publish project task updates from Microsoft Project to the PM Central project Tasks list.

Exporting from the PM Central Tasks List using Connect to Microsoft Project
Note: This export method is only supported for destination clients running Windows 7. Windows Vista is not supported.
Before you can publish changes to tasks from Microsoft Project 2010 to SharePoint 2010, you must first establish a connection with Microsoft Project by exporting your PM Central Tasks list.
Before exporting tasks, verify that Internet Explorer is correctly configured. In IE, go to Tools > Internet options. In the Security tab, click Custom level and change the setting for the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe for scripting to Prompt. Click OK and OK again to save your changes.

-
Click Connect to Microsoft Project to establish a connection. There are multiple options available: In the project site, go to Central Actions > Lists and click the Tasks list. In the PMC List Action ribbon, click Connect to Microsoft Project.

On the Tasks tab in the project site, click All Tasks. Click Connect to Microsoft Project above the Task Master Web Part.

In the Import Wizard window, choose to import the items As a new project, and then click Finish. Do not Append or Merge data; these options are not supported. When you click Finish, a fixed subset of fields from the SharePoint Tasks list is imported into Microsoft Project. For the complete field list, see the next section.

When the schedule is imported successfully, save the project schedule as an .mpp file.
After exporting the SharePoint Tasks list to Microsoft Project, you can synchronize changes made in Microsoft Project 2010 to the SharePoint Tasks list. See Synchronizing Tasks between Microsoft Project 2010 and SharePoint 2010 in the next section for details.

Synchronizing Tasks between Microsoft Project 2010 and SharePoint 2010

Additional Notes:
- Duration and Work fields are not synchronized. If your task scheduling method is different between Microsoft Project and Task Master (Start Date and Due Date, Start Date and Work, or Start Date and Duration), the values for Work and Duration may differ between the two after synchronization. Since only Start Date and Due Date are synchronized, Work and Duration will be updated in SharePoint based on the synchronized dates and the business rules configured in the Task Master Web Part settings.
- The Task Master Web Part does not support lag time. If you have lag time configured for a task in Microsoft Project (such as "+3days"), the lag time will not be synchronized.
- If you need to export additional fields from the SharePoint Tasks list and do not need to synchronize data from Microsoft Project to SharePoint, use the Bamboo MS Office Project Integration Web Part. For more information, see KB.12763 - How to export SharePoint tasks to Microsoft Project using the Microsoft Project Add-in for PM Central 3.0.
To publish updated tasks from Microsoft Project 2010 to SharePoint:
-
After making a change in Microsoft Project, go to the File menu and click Bamboo Integration, and then click the Synchronize button.

Data will be synchronized to the project site listed in the Connection Information. The link to the project site was created when you exported the task list using the Connect to Microsoft Project button in PM Central.
-
Enter the Username and Password of an account with the Design permission level in the SharePoint project site. Click the Synchronize button. Data will be synchronized from Microsoft Project to the SharePoint Tasks list.

If the synchronization is successful, you see results similar to the following:

Note: If you make a change to the SharePoint Tasks list after exporting it, it will not be synchronized to Microsoft Project automatically—not even when you click the Synchronize button in Microsoft Project. You must perform the export again. Synchronization only works from Microsoft Project 2010 to SharePoint 2010.
