SYMPTOM
Following the Application Notes for routine installation of the Web Part (i.e., running Setup.bat from the extracted zip file), the installer receives the following error that states "Object reference not set to an instance of an object."

CAUSE
This issue commonly occurs when the Microsoft SQL Server is installed on a separate server in a SharePoint Server Farm and the currently logged in user on the web server that is installing the Web Part does not have administrative access to the SQL Server instance.

RESOLUTION
Please login with a user who has administrative access to both the Web Server and the SQL server and try to install the Web Part again on the web server.

APPLIES
  • All Bamboo Web Parts
  • Windows SharePoint Services V2 and SharePoint Portal Server 2003
  • Windows SharePoint Services V3 and Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007
