This month, we're excited to add the SharePoint Filters Collection to our ever-increasing selection of products. The Filter Collection includes several different Web Parts, designed to recreate and improve upon the out of the box filtering capabilities included with MOSS (but not WSS). You can build filters based on a simple text string or date value, or provide users with pre-set choices. You can even filter based on profile data with the included Current User filter that automatically detects the currently logged in account. The filters work via standard Web Part Connections, so it's easy to connect them to List Views, Calendars, and even Bamboo products like Calendar Plus.

Modifying your List Rollup Data Views

Our List Rollup Web Part is one of our most popular Web Parts. It makes aggregating data from SharePoint lists across multiple sites quick and easy. With the auto-discovery feature, it’s even better since you can set it and forget it – data from sites to be created sometime in the future will automatically appear in the appropriate roll-ups. Pretty cool.

Even with all this great functionality, we get calls about how to customize the display of the rollups. Since these roll-up data views are XSLT, with a little knowledge you can do a lot. We’ve documented some of the things that are most frequently asked. Check out the Bamboo Team Blog post called Do You Want to Add Totals to Your List Rollup Data View? and Add Totals to the Dynamic Groups that Appear in Your List Rollup Data View to quickly and easily add value to your roll-ups. They talk about adding Counts, but you can just as easily add Sums. There is a KB article on HOW TO: Collapse groups by default, and finally, the article HOW TO: Modify the default display of Data Views explains how to configure default sorting and grouping and also how to hide the default Toolbar.
