Which Bamboo Rollup Product Should I Use?
List Consolidator for Users is a simplified, basic version of List Rollup. It contains the most commonly used end-user features of a SharePoint data aggregation tool. Use this product to offer your end users an easy and quick way to rollup a small number of lists (typically 10 lists or less) on an ad-hoc basis without having to grant higher SharePoint user permissions.
List Rollup* includes the following Web Parts:
List Rollup (Schema Designer) is the next generation of the Bamboo List Rollup - Classic. A new, simplified user interface and backend architecture for creating rollups paired with a grid view Web Part output for easy manipulation of the data, offers a comprehensive feature set of data aggregation functionality that meets small to enterprise level business intelligence needs. List Rollup - Classic is the original Bamboo List Rollup. This product offers the same features of the List Rollup Schema Designer and almost all of the List Consolidator for Users but also offers one extra feature: Rollup list data from different data types. With this product, you can rollup data from a Number column type into a Single Line of Text column type. * Both List Rollup Schema Designer and List Rollup Classic Edition are included with the purchase of List Rollup Web Part.

One of the major attractions of implementing SharePoint is the flexibility to create multiple sites and areas. This gives the IT department the ability to centrally control the server, databases and security, and at the same time allows each department or group the ability to manage their own sub-sites. As the usage of SharePoint increases, there is a proliferation of SharePoint sites to manage. This makes it harder for users to keep track of which tasks and documents are located in which sites because in SharePoint today, there is no easy way to see a unified view of such information. Below is a comparison chart between Bamboo List Rollup Schema Designer, Bamboo List Rollup Classic Edition and SharePoint Content Query Web Part (available in MOSS 2007 only):
Upon installing the List Rollup Web Part, three separate Web Parts are deployed: Bamboo List Rollup Classic Edition, Bamboo List Rollup Schema Designer and Bamboo List Rollup Grid View. The Bamboo List Rollup Classic Edition utilizes a custom data source built by Bamboo Solutions to aggregate lists and libraries into a single view called a SharePoint Data Form. Utilizing the custom data source, Bamboo List Rollup Classic Edition is able to aggregate different list types and column types into the same resulting SharePoint Data Form. This provides users a great deal of flexibility to mine data across SharePoint sites and site collections. Bamboo List Rollup Classic Edition also provides the user who builds the rollup, ability to enable a cache to improve performance. The Bamboo List Rollup Schema Designer on the other hand uses the SharePoint Data Query and stores the resulting rollup schema in a SharePoint list called Bamboo List Rollup Configuration that is automatically created when the Bamboo List Rollup Schema Designer is added to a page in the site. Users use the Bamboo List Rollup Schema Designer to define what lists is displayed in a given schema. After building the schema to meet the needs of the rollup, users can then connect other Bamboo products to display the resulting aggregated view of data. The Bamboo List Rollup product comes with a grid view to display the data on a Web Part page by adding the Bamboo List Rollup Grid View and pointing it to an existing List Rollup Schema.
