List Search Web Part: Step-by-step Guide
Power Search within a List: Introducing Advanced Search Web Part

This article presents an overview of how to use the Advanced Search Web Part to search within a SharePoint Tasks List.

Step 1:

Install the Bamboo Advanced Search Web Part according to instructions in the Application Notes. After the Web Part is installed, select Modify Shared Web Part from the menu accessed at the upper right corner of the Web Part. This menu is only accessible by users with authority to modify the page.

The Advanced Search Web Part setting is very straightforward.  You can select:

  • The Lists that end users are allowed to search on.
  • Whether you want to keep the Search Results in the same page as the Search Web Part, or to display the Search Results in a different page.
  • Whether to show the Print Preview button.

Save your configuration settings by clicking Apply and then OK.

Step 2:

You should now see the List Search Web Part.

Step 3:

The users can select a List (preset in the step above) to search.  The search parameters can be simple or as complex as you need.  In this example, we can search for any Task that has Priority = High AND (Status = Not Started OR Status = In Progress).  You can use the Group function to combine logical grouping of your Search criteria.

Step 4:

Press Find and the Search Results are shown. The Search Results can be printed by pressing the Print Preview button.
