Overview
This article outlines how to migrate Bamboo products from SharePoint 2007 (WSS v3.0/MOSS 2007) to SharePoint 2010 (SharePoint Foundation 2010/SharePoint Server 2010).

NOTE: Before following the instructions in this article, review the spreadsheet in the Article Attachments section at the bottom of the page to see if your product can be upgraded using one of the methods below. The spreadsheet will also list limitations or additional steps required for each product.

For additional information about upgrading your existing SharePoint 2007 Farm to SharePoint 2010, read these articles:
Upgrade and migration for SharePoint Server 2010
Attach databases and upgrade to SharePoint Server 2010

Bamboo supports two upgrade methods* **:

  1. Database Attach and Upgrade
  2. In-Place Upgrade where Database Attach and Upgrade is used. NOTE: Bamboo requires that on Step 5 of Run the SharePoint Products Configuration Wizard, the following option is selected: Change existing SharePoint sites to use the new user experience. Administrators control the user experience for end users. SharePoint Administrators can then decide which sub-option is then selected.

* Bamboo Solutions does not support the migration of Bamboo products deployed on SharePoint 2003 environments to SharePoint 2010 Farms.

** Bamboo Solutions does not support the downgrade of SharePoint editions when migrating from SharePoint 2007 to SharePoint 2010. For example, Bamboo products are not supported when migrating from MOSS 2007 to SharePoint Foundation 2010.

Migration Steps
The supported migration steps vary based on the migration method used. Please see the appropriate section below. NOTE: In both migration methods described below, Bamboo requires that the current storefront release of the product be installed on the SharePoint 2007 Farm prior to the migration. See How To Find the Version for a Bamboo Product to locate the product version of Bamboo products.

Database Attach and Upgrade Method

  1. Follow Microsoft’s Attach Databases and Upgrade to SharePoint 2010 article to perform the database reattachment upgrade.
  2. During the upgrade process, retrieve the installation package and license keys for SharePoint 2010 of the Bamboo products you are migrating. See the article Migrate My Existing Bamboo Product License Key From SharePoint 2007 to SharePoint 2010 for additional details.
  3. After successfully upgrading to SharePoint 2010, and after all sites have completed their conversion to the new user experience, run the SharePoint 2010 Bamboo product installation package that you downloaded in Step 2. During the installation, under Deployment Targets, select the appropriate Web applications where the Bamboo product is deployed. For more information about installation, refer to Best Practices for Installing Bamboo Products.
  4. Install the Bamboo Web License Manager provided in the same installation package.
NOTE: The Bamboo Web License Manager only has to be installed once. Skip this step for subsequent Bamboo product installations.
  5. Activate the SharePoint 2010 versions of Bamboo products by following the article Install and Activate a License for Bamboo Products in SharePoint 2010.
  6. Refer to the document attached to this article, found below, called Migration of Bamboo Products from SharePoint 2007 to SharePoint 2010 for information on additional steps required for each Bamboo product. Products with the status Under Review for the column Successful Migration to SharePoint 2010 currently are being reviewed for migration support.

In-Place Upgrade Method

  1. Follow Microsoft’s Upgrade In Place to SharePoint 2010 article to perform the in-place upgrade.
    • Note: Bamboo Solutions requires that on Step 5 of Run the SharePoint Products Configuration Wizard, the following option is selected: Change existing SharePoint sites to use the new user experience. Administrators control the user experience for end users. SharePoint Administrators can then decide which sub-option is then selected.
  4. Select and install the Bamboo Web License Manager provided in the same installation package.
    • The Bamboo Web License Manager only needs to be installed once. Skip this step for subsequent Bamboo product installations.
    • Select Upgrade/Repair Existing and Install New for the option Repair, Remove or Install.
  5. Activate the SharePoint 2010 versions of Bamboo products by following the article Install and Activate a License for Bamboo Products in SharePoint 2010. See the article Migrate My Existing Bamboo Product License Key From SharePoint 2007 to SharePoint 2010 to learn how to retrieve your SharePoint 2010 Bamboo license keys.
  6. Refer to the document attached to this article, found below, called Migration of Bamboo Products from SharePoint 2007 to SharePoint 2010 for information on additional steps required for each Bamboo product.
