About the Shared Assemblies Library

The Shared Assemblies Library contains copies of assemblies shared by multiple Bamboo products. If you upgrade or uninstall one Bamboo product and another Bamboo product in your farm shares the same assemblies, WSS may remove the shared assemblies and you may see errors or lack of functionality on your other products. For more information about this issue, read KB article 12437.

The Shared Assemblies Library will be included in new versions of Bamboo products that may be affected by the issue described in KB 12437. A copy is also available in the Attachments section at the bottom of this article.

When to install the Shared Assemblies Library

You should install the Shared Assemblies Library whenever installing a Bamboo product, especially when:

  • You are planning to upgrade or uninstall an existing Bamboo product
  • You have at least one other Bamboo product installed in your farm

If the Shared Assemblies Library has already been installed, you do not need to install it again.  You can tell if the Shared Assemblies Library is already installed either by running the installation for the component (and it will recognize if the component is already installed, and will reflect that in the GUI installer, and prompt to either remove or repair), or you can check on the server in Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (or Programs and Features), to see if Bamboo.Core.v1.2 is on the list of installed components.

Installing the Shared Assemblies Library

The Shared Assemblies Library is a MSI installer, and should be installed on any server in the farm running the WSS Web Application Service.  This would be each server used as a web front end server, and may also include other servers.  See Central Administration > Operations > Servers in Farm to see which servers run this service.

From a file download:

1.Download the file to a directory on your SharePoint server.
2.Go to the directory and double-click on the Bamboo.Core.V1.2.MSI installer file.
3.Follow the installation instructions given in the GUI.
4.Repeat these steps on every server in your farm that runs the Windows SharePoint Services Web Application service.

From a Bamboo product's Setup program:

1.Before installing the product, click on Shared Assemblies Library in the Setup screen and click the Install button.
    2.Follow the installation instructions.
3.Repeat these steps on every front-end Web server in your farm that runs the Windows SharePoint Services Web Application service.
