ISSUE

After uninstalling or upgrading one Bamboo product in your farm, another Bamboo product has stopped working or is missing functionality.

ROOT CAUSE

This issue can occur in a SharePoint farm with multiple front-end Web servers where more than one Bamboo product is installed.

Some Bamboo products share the same assemblies. Due to an issue with the way WSS deploys solutions to the farm, removing the solution can also remove these shared assemblies - even if they are still used by other applications. This can even occur when you uninstall another company's product, if that product shares some of the same assemblies with a Bamboo product.

Because Bamboo Bundles and Suites include products that are also available individually, customers with a Bundle or Suite and an individual product are more likely to encounter this issue when upgrading or uninstalling one or the other.

The issue does not occur in environments with a single front-end Web server.

RESOLUTION

If you are experiencing this issue, you can resolve it by installing a package containing all Bamboo shared assemblies, called the Shared Assemblies Library, on each front-end Web server. See KB article 12439 to download a copy of this package and for installation instructions.

To workaround the WSS solution deployment issue, new versions of affected Bamboo products will use a new "merged assembly model" that does not share assemblies with other Bamboo products. If you have a version of a product that uses this new model, upgrading or uninstalling the product later will not affect your other Bamboo products. Products using the merged assembly model are also not affected by upgrading or removing other Bamboo products that don't use the new model.

To check if a Bamboo product already uses this new model, see KB article 12438.

The Shared Assemblies Library will be included in new versions of Bamboo products. To determine if you need to install the files or to download them separately, read KB article 12439.
